Summary
Scylla sat silently in the chair, mind whirring yet quiet.
She’d failed.
Her mission, the only thing she had gone there to do, to achieve, sacrificed everything for, was done.
She’d lost.

Summary
“Scyl?” Raelle looked around. Her arm reached out, moving as if to block the witch from whatever was out there, to push the necro behind her.
“I don’t know what it is.” Scylla carefully stepped toward her, eyes roaming, hands raised.
A tingle hit Raelle’s body.
She whipped her head around, a faint white tinge enveloping her eyes, “Scylla!”
The red force consumed them.

Summary
This was not a good time to do this.
This was actually one of the worst times to do it.
They should not be doing this right now.
It was a bad idea.
Terrible.
Awful.
Horrendous.
So, of course they were doing this now.

Summary
What could she say to the blonde fixer slumped over on the couch, hair a mess and face hidden from view but the bruises still there? The cuts. The dried blood that never truly washed away.
What could she say to Raelle?
“When?”
Scylla startled at the unexpected croak.

Summary
“Maybe,” Raelle sighed, “What about you?”
“What about me?”
“What do you want to do when you’re older?”
Scylla blinked. The same something trying to latch on to Raelle faltered, flickered, glowed and grimaced.
Dark ocean blue eyes plummeted to the deepest of depths and drowned, only to be replaced by a veneer of calm and solitude.
A flimsy façade.
“Come on,” Raelle urged, noticing but not realizing, doing her best to figure it out while continuing her question, “White picket fence? 2.5 kids? Professor at some college? Super secret spy assassin?”
Scylla’s face froze.

Summary
This was not how Scylla expected to see Raelle for the first time in centuries.
It wasn’t how she expected to see any of them.
“I don’t believe it. This is wrong. You’re wrong.” Abigail glowered near the center of the room, face fierce and growl just this side of penetrating.
Tally’s eyes were full of understanding as they beseeched the other woman to listen, “I know it sounds insane. But, it’s the truth, Abs.”

Summary
It hurt.
It hurt more than anything ever had before in her life.
It split her apart. Tore her in two. Into tiny pieces so small there was no way she could ever be put back together. Not completely. Never be whole again. Cracked and misshapen. Her mind and body stabbed and sliced up into something that didn’t resemble the person she once was. The person she thought she had been. The woman who could smile and love and dedicate her entire self to another. To someone she thought loved her, too.

Summary
“Alban Hearst wants to kill all beings who descend from my line.”
“Witches.” Raelle breathed.
“Yes.”
“Witches aren’t real.”
The presence almost seemed to laugh, “The way I’m not real?” The air tensed, “You heard my call. You answered the call. You are the one. You will be my avatar in this realm. You will protect my line.”

Summary
“Damn it, Abigail, slow down.”
The regal being thrust both of her strong steely hands against the double doors guarding the entrance to the private room, palms jamming against the ornate carvings depicting the roar of a panther and the triumph of a Bellweather, gold and silver united to portray the symbol of the woman’s family, her kingdom, her heritage.
Her legacy.
Her identity.
Her.
