Some frayed thread of self-control, worn thin by years of this bullshit, finally snaps. “I was always here, I was always ready for you to come home and act like family,” he spits back, heart pounding in his chest. “You were the ones who never wanted to be. Bruce Wayne has acted like more of a father to me than you ever have.”
Jack’s hands move from pinning his shoulders to wrapping around his throat in the space between heartbeats. Tim should be able to break the hold, easy. Should be able to push him away, strike his legs out from under him even without his bo staff to help him. He’s Robin.
Instead, cold ice spills through his veins, freezing him in place even as his windpipe buckles.

There’s no one else. He doesn’t know of any of his family outside of his parents let alone their numbers. There are no other adults. Tim’s never had the chance to rely on anyone, but himself let alone the need.
Swallowing around the rising lump in his throat, he tries to rationalize it. Sometimes you have to make sacrifices, you have to alter your plan and put yourself through stuff you don’t like. It’s okay, really, even if the sacrifice is your own shallow grasp on your mental health.
