In the waning years of the Third Era, when Dagoth Ur still sat plotting within Red Mountain and the blighted ash still fell across the island of Vvardenfell, a prisoner born of a certain sign to uncertain parents was transported without explanation from the Imperial City to the province of Morrowind.
His name was Karkat Vantas, and this is his tale.

Summary
Karkat Vantas, a nobody Dunmer who grew up in the Imperial City, was transferred as a prisoner to Morrowind with no warning and saddled with impossible expectations: he was to prove himself to be the prophesied reincarnation of the ancient Chimer king Indoril Nerevar and defeat Dagoth Ur, the dark god who sat plotting within Red Mountain. When Dagoth Ur's followers try to kill Karkat, the Dunmer decides that, though he may not believe in this reincarnation nonsense, he would fulfill those prophesies simply to spite the dark god.
But rage and spite alone may not prove to be enough as the evidence piles up that he, in a past life, may be in part to blame for the entire mess.

It's 427th year of the Third Era. A little over a month ago, Karkat Vantas, a Dunmer "resident" of the Imperial City's Waterfront District (or anywhere else he could manage to find a place to sleep) went missing. Dave Strider thinks there's something strange about the whole business, but he's not prepared for just how right he is.
