“What are you looking at?” a voice came from next to him.
“Centipede,” he replied curtly.
“What’s that?” the other child asked.
“Bug.” Henry pointed.
The other boy knelt next to him. “Oh. Cool. It has a lot of legs.”
Henry turned to the boy next to him. Dark haired. A little chubby. About his age. Beautiful brown eyes, his mind supplied unhelpfully.
And the boy was looking at Henry like he was interested in what he had to say.
“Their name means a hundred feet,” he said, testing the waters.
The boy's eyes widened. “Really?”
“Yeah!” Henry replied, his mood brightening. “Centi comes from hundred and pede is from feet. In Latin.”
“That is so cool!” The boy stuck out his hand. “I’m Ted.”
“Henry.” He shook. It felt important. Life defining.

Alternative Universe - Henry Creel escapes from Hawkins National Laboratory, but finds himself playing a reluctant father figure to an orphaned child.

Vecna waved his hand, and Will dropped to the ground. Mike, still immobilised, watched Will panting on all fours. He desperately wanted to get up, run over to him, figure out what the hell Vecna had done to him, but his body remained traitorous.
He tried to call out, to get Will’s attention, but the sound seemed to catch in his chest and suffocate. He cleared his throat and tried again. Nothing. Discomfort sank in as he tried to regain his voice to no avail, mouth opening and closing soundlessly, like a goldfish.
An eerie, rhythmic ticking had crept into Mike’s periphery, raising goosebumps on his skin and setting him on edge.
A grandfather clock chimed nearby. A death sentence.
