Yumeko’s free hand is removed from behind her back. A polaroid is held between her pointer and middle finger, as if it were a playing card. “This—” She slips the Polaroid into the pocket of Riri’s dress shirt. “—is from your wife.” And then she’s gone, talking to Kira or Ryan or whoever her next victim was. Riri places her now empty flute of champagne onto a nearby table, confused, and pulls the Polaroid from her shirt pocket.
She’s instantly clutching the thing to her chest upon seeing its contents.

She twists and slips out of Riri’s hold like smoke through fingers, landing lightly a few steps away. “The one who’s been decreasing my perfect score,” she continues, voice sharp. “I’ve been top five in the department for two thousand years. Two thousand. And you”—she gestures at Riri with all four hands at once—“you’ve already knocked me down to top ten.
Her wings twitch, agitated. “I’ve worked so hard. And a mortal like you just decides to ruin my life.”
