Lesso finds she can't take her eyes off of the top of the fairy wing tattoos on Dovey's shoulder blades. They look as if they're drawn in starlight. Against her dark skin it's a beautiful sight.
"I never knew you had tattoos," Lesso says into the silence, something teasing in her tone.
Dovey tenses, the lines of her shoulders hardening.

The muted sound of rain tapping against the tall windows of her chambers is enough to have Lesso stirring. The gray light of an early December dawn filters through the heavy curtains that partly cover her windows, casting long shadows across the room. She’s still for a moment, listening to the rain, her body weighed down by an exhaustion that had nothing to do with sleep. Right. It is her birthday.

This whole thing had started when Lady Lesso decided she always wanted the upper hand against the Fairy Godmother; everything that Professor Dovey seemed to be good at, Lesso wanted to excel in.
Leonora wanted no short comings against the other woman – which seemed almost impossible as she was already a good head taller, so already she was one up against the Good professor.
