Summary
Dazai must still be asleep. Chuuya bets he will be greeted by his pathetic ex-partner snoring away, cuddling a bottle of whiskey, blinking his stupid owl eyes at him when he sees him, wondering if Chuuya is nothing but a figment of his imagination.
He takes a deep breath and pushes the door open.
Immediately, he gags. The thin cotton layer over his nose fails to protect him from the pungent smell hanging heavily in the abandoned house. Chuuya feels the cool, salty sea breeze rush into the building through the open door, sending chills down his spine, and yet, the rotten smell doesn’t fade away at the slightest.
“Dazai.”
There is no answer.

Chuuya looks for Dazai after he defects. Finally, he finds him.

The tip of the gun dragged lower, down Dazai's cheek and his neck. His rusty brown eye followed Chuuya's face, surely noticing every movement, every change, the tongue peeking out from between his lips and the slight furrowing of his brow.
And then he must have realized something, just when the barrel of the gun slid past his chest, now pressing against his flat stomach and still slowly sliding lower.

The moment he tried to turn away from the sink, Dazai’s stomach rolled. The aura swam, edges of the dark bathroom tilting and flashing with static, and for a second the mirror caught him sideways—half a face, half a ghost, the rest erased.
Chuuya’s voice cut through cleanly. “Don’t look for it. Look at my voice.”
It was such a stupid sentence it almost worked on principle alone.
Static, nausea, bright crescents of nothing—a blind spot opens in the center of Dazai’s world; Chuuya narrates the dark like a lifeline.

Summary
After a bad fight, Chuuya comes back to his apartment with ruined knuckles and a mouth full of regrets. He finds Dazai asleep in his bed, face buried in the soft warmth of Chuuya’s blanket like it’s the only safe thing left.
or: Dazai doesn’t sleep unless something has scraped him hollow. Chuuya doesn’t forgive easily. Tonight, both of them give in.

The plan was simple: set it off in the backyard, freak Mum out, and prove he could be just as wild as Henry. He had pictured her screeching in fright and dropping her baking dish, maybe grounding him for a week, but he would grin through, knowing he had finally left a new mark on his name.
Peter had lit the fuse, heart pounding with a mix of nerves and excitement. But the firework didn’t shoot up like it was supposed to. It hissed and sparked, and before he could react, it exploded into a burst of light and heat, right there on the ground. He froze, the world slowing as the blast roared in his ears. He didn’t even see Henry move, but suddenly his brother was there, shoving him hard to the ground. He hit the grass, momentarily winded, as another crack slit in the air.
Henry screamed, a sound Peter had never heard from him before, raw and jagged. When Peter scrambled up, Henry was on his knees, hands clawing at his face, blood seeping between his fingers. Peter had shouted his name, trying to pull his hands away, but it was no use. Everything after that was a blur; paramedics, flashing lights, Mum sobbing in the ambulance while Peter sat silent, numbly staring at the blood on his hands.

Summary
There’s a lot of things Mike didn't expect in life, the first being that it was Max who drew his name in the Halloween secret costume exchange but he should’ve figured that one, it was just his luck after all. The second was the costume she picked out for him: a dog costume, complete with a collar and leash which he refused to even look at. He wasn’t going to be treated like an actual dog, thank you very much.
And the final, most pressing thing: how much he actually liked it when Will treated him like his own personal dog—tugging him around, giving him orders, and worst of all, calling him a good boy.

Summary
Mike's life is split in three categories; the life he should have, the life he wants to have, and the life he has to have. Currently, he's living in limbo between all three; he'll never have that white-picket fence and suburban wife, not when the only girl he could try to love has left him, and while he's finding it harder to live the life he has to have— the life where he hides himself so deep, not even the people he loves know who he is— he'll never get the life he wants, either.
Limbo sucks, to put it simply. He's so close to what he wants (which is Will, no matter how hard he tries to shove it down) but he just can't push past that barrier and talk to Will, not when everything he does always feels wrong.
But, maybe, Mike might come to learn that what he wants isn’t so bad, after all.
(Or; Mike's struggle with his internalized homophobia— among other things, including the concept of free will, Robin Buckley's mildly terrifying presence, and wanting things Mike's sure he doesn't deserve— structured around the five stages of grief. You can mourn a life you'll never live, and you can mourn someone you haven't actually lost.)

“’Morning,” Mike grumbled, voice low from sleep.
“Noon,” Max corrected, as if she hadn’t only woken up thirty minutes before him.
“Wow,” he replied, squinting at the light. “Nobody thought to wake me?”
It happened casually after that, so casually it almost didn’t register at first. El laughed at something Lucas said, then turned toward Mike and leaned in, instinctively, easily, pressing a kiss to his lips like it was the most logical way to say good morning to him.

Or: Mike and Will have been together for a year and a half when El comes back. The problem is, El assumes she and Mike are still together. The bigger problem is that Mike doesn’t realize Will thinks he might choose her.
