I always knew you could, but I’m glad you know you can now.” He whispers it and she wants to pretend like she didn’t hear him but it’s the sweetest thing he’s said to her all night and she hates him again for making her feel things she shouldn’t. They arrive at their destination before she can figure out a reply.
He helps her out of the car again and guides her inside with his hand hovering on her lower back. She hates how secure he makes her feel all of the time. His sickening chivalry disguises how truly twisted he was. In love with another man’s woman. Everything about him was an oxymoron and a big fucking joke.
The joke was always on her.
