“I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Sitting on the damp, muddy ground, hugging his knees to his chest, not caring about the dirt most definitely getting on his khaki pants and tan coat. When he first got the outfit, it felt like it swallowed him whole. Now, he has grown into it. It is still a bit large on him, his body gangly with the clothes a little loose, but not nearly as oversized as before. More evidence that his body is changing, that he is changing. The more he thinks about it, the worse he feels.
“I’m sorry.”
He rarely apologizes like this, genuine. Maybe it is only something he can only say to a tombstone.
No one ever told him the light would be this lonely.

Top Chuuya Week 2026 Day 1: College AU
On move-in day, Dazai shows up three hours late to his new college apartment, drops his suitcase in the middle of the floor, and immediately starts testing his new roommate’s patience.
Chuuya expected a quiet, orderly semester. What he got was a loud, infuriating brat who doesn’t know when to shut up, and an even bigger problem: how much he likes it.
“You think this is funny?” Chuuya snarls.
Dazai lets his gaze drag downward again, slower this time, taking in the flush of skin, the way those grey sweatpants sit indecently low on his hips, the faint tension in his abdomen that hasn’t quite softened yet.
“I think,” Dazai replies, “that you’re overreacting.”
Chuuya’s hand moves before the rest of him does, fingers catching the front of Dazai’s shirt and fisting there.
“Well,” Dazai murmurs, “that’s one way to get my attention.”

Summary
A routine Port Mafia mission goes wrong in the worst (and most inconvenient) way possible—an unknown ability user slips through space itself and rewrites Dazai Osamu into something… else.
Same mind. Same ability. Same insufferable personality.
Just not the same body.
While the Port Mafia scrambles to understand what happened, Chuuya is left dealing with a version of Dazai he absolutely refuses to acknowledge—and definitely doesn’t find distracting.
Unfortunately for him, Dazai has already decided to make this everyone’s problem.

He watches Chuuya fall asleep, slow and soft, in small bits. He is so beautiful, and he is mine. All mine.
I am the first person he smiled at.
I am the first person who said his name.
I am the first person who has held him like this.
He is mine. He will always be mine now, after these things.
Dazai thinks, for a moment, that he might not ever get to feel things, or see the world the way most people do, or find a reason to live. But he can live for this, for him. For this boy. He does not care about birds or parks or trees or people, does not feel all that much when he sees the sunrise or sunset or the stars and the moon. He does not like dogs or children. He does not like the world.
But he likes Chuuya. He likes the way Chuuya looks when he is looking at all these things.
