I ran out of my living quarters and into the main part of the shop, finding four soldiers spilling in through the door. The storm came in with them, drenching the wood floors with rainwater and blood. I could smell it, iron rich, dripping down the front of one of them.
My first thought was of witch hunters; the magic I’d felt, the presence. But these men wore the brown cloaks and uniforms of The Order, not the black of hunters.
They were not here to burn me, I surmised after a half-second of blinding panic.Or

At their final show for their European tour, you attend a private afterparty. The masks come off, and you realize quickly that the men behind the masks are from your past. You thought you’d never see them again. You thought it was over. But they haven’t forgotten. You agree to a few days, insisting that it means nothing, but there is an entire tour ahead of you, and they are loathe to let you slip away again.

Summary
We are shifters, not weapons.
After shifters announced their existence to the world, they got their rights taken away by the humans they promised to protect.
Shifters are forced into submission and servitude, their lives not their own.
Humans believe we are more animal than human, some even keep us as glorified pets.
But it’s the mythical shifters that are most sought after, used in war for their abilities, chained by their government.
That’s all going to change.
