Long read but definitely worth it.
Travis being in a situation where his father can't reach him and it allowing him to learn and grow is just the best outcome from something he was all but forced into.
Also the group being tricked into a church camp but making the best of it is so in character.Really enjoyed the detailing of his abuse, it made it feel more real and affected him in ways that weren't just mental trauma which was nice to see.
Fuck that one counselor/leader whatever. Your religion does not excuse hate. (genuinely almost started tweaking out at that scene because of my own personal experiences, still an awesome read regardless)

Dream had been in prison for a year but it wasn't justice. Anyone else would have gotten a trial, anyone else would have been listened to and an agreement would have come. But not Dream. Dream was executed twice, was thrown into a cell. That wasn't justice.

Another favorite of mine.
Really like seeing consequences for what happened to Dream because no matter what the things that happened in that prison were horrible. Also love the spotlight on Eret, they just get so glossed over by fans.

Listen, all high school days suck, this one was just shaping up to suck more than literally all of the other ones ever. Namely, he was stuck in a class where not only was there a homophobic argument going on—as in, both sides are being homophobic and just debating on how best to be homophobic—but the teacher is doing literally fucking nothing to stop them.

Really like how subtle the bullying is, it makes it feel more real. Also really accurate depiction of homophobia.

Alternatively: Before a beast, the owl beast is a creature. Pair that with that fact that it is currently sharing a body with a witch who has emotionally adopted a bunch of kids, and you get an owl beast with very strong maternal instincts.
