Summary
Zoro pushes himself to the limit but it won’t change the fact that his adversary is going to reach Wado first, her fingers outstretched and her grin victorious. He might be snarling but he can’t tell, his ears deafening him with a rush of blood.
Then, just as her hand would reach Wado’s hit, a lithe form comes between them. Precious hands snatch her up and pull her to a familiar chest.
The devil fruit user's palm lands on Sanji’s shoulder instead and Zoro feels the world fall away as a vibrant blue eye meets his own. There’s relief awash in Sanji’s features.
And then he’s gone.
A puff of blue sand is all that remains. Zoro’s within reach now but there's nothing to catch.
His boots slide through sparking, sapphire sand and someone is screaming Sanji’s name.

He continued to hold Luffy whilst he was crying, however he startled slightly when he suddenly heard Luffy choke on his own tears, “Sanji?” His voice was so utterly broken, it pained Sanji’s heart and broke it into a million different pieces.
“Yeah?”
“Promise you won’t ever leave me.”
Sanji squeezed Luffy a bit tighter, still mindful of his injuries and gave a firm kiss on his head. He murmured into his hair, “I promise I won’t ever leave you. Nothing could ever make me leave you. I promise Luffy.”
“Good.”

Extremely perceptive on the battlefield, powerful intuition when it came to shrine puzzles, but in social interactions, he had a bit of catching up to do. Kind of operated on his own plane of existence.
But even he, after a time, started to see a pattern: People all over Hyrule, from village to stable to bazaar, really seemed into him. It was only after the consistent flirtatious remarks and comments that Link began to see a trend.People were hitting on him.

In the place of the blonde, there was now… a child, and a young one at that. Most worryingly of all though was the condition he was in.
The boy was filthy from head to toe, with greasy, untamed hair, worse still though were the sheer number of scars, burns, cuts, and bruises which littered his body, the latter ranging in colour from aging light brown to a yellowing green and finally a worryingly fresh bluish-purple.
Someone had hurt this boy, and…

"Why do you do it?" he asked, his voice cutting through the quiet night. Sanji didn't even seem surprised by the question.
"Do what?" Sanji didn't look at him, just took another drag of his cigarette.
"Throw yourself in front of every attack like some kind of human shield."
Sanji was quiet for a long moment. "Someone has to protect them."
"We all protect each other. That's what being a crew means."
"Yeah?" Sanji's voice carried an edge now. "And what happens when you're not fast enough?"
"They die," Zoro said bluntly. "Same as any of us might die. That's the risk we all take."
Sanji's cigarette glowed brighter in the darkness. "Not if I can help it."
"And what about when you die instead?"
The question hung between them like smoke. Sanji flicked his cigarette into the ocean, watching it hiss and disappear into the waves.
"Then at least it'll be someone who deserves it."
The words hit Zoro like a physical blow. He stared at the cook's profile, at the way his shoulders curved inward like he was trying to make himself smaller.
"You think you deserve to die?"
"I think," Sanji said carefully, "that my life is worth less than theirs."
