they pull ludmila from her glass coffin, and it takes some time to understand reality. this is my excuse to write her having genuine trauma from everything, and also the fact that i too would be having a Rough Time if i'd just spent centuries in a tube and then brought back to life.

Summary
Advancements in science require resources, funding, sponsors...things the two scientists were not flush with. Getting funding is arduous, when an easy deal comes along...they cant be blamed for accepting. The technology wasn't developed to be used in this particular application, but it is easily adapted to fit almost any needs. A little restraint is nothing, in the grand scheme of things.
