Advancements in science require resources, funding, sponsors...things the two scientists were not flush with. Getting funding is arduous, when an easy deal comes along...they cant be blamed for accepting. The technology wasn't developed to be used in this particular application, but it is easily adapted to fit almost any needs. A little restraint is nothing, in the grand scheme of things.

Admittedly, Cassandra still wasn't sure that “maternal” was the right word to describe her. If anything, the very definition of a parent seemed like something impossible for her to embody— like she was a square block trying to fit into a round mold. She wasn’t even convinced that “nurturing” was a word in her vocabulary.
But as she looked down at Rapunzel, curled up in her lap, gazing up at her like she was the best thing in the entire universe; Cassandra knew without a doubt that she had found her place. She had found her family.
Rapunzel and Eugene both saw something in her. Something that they could love, and admire. And whatever that something was, Cassandra wanted to prove them right.“Mother” didn’t feel like a role that suited her. Not yet.
But for now, all she could do was hope that one day, somehow, it would.
