    Summary

"We made a wrong choice, a series of them, but this one weighed heavier than anything the Van der Linde gang had felt before and that’s sayin’ something after what happened in Blackwater. Climbing up that blue mountain cost us more than the blood flowing through our fingertips. We would have gladly paid that price, as well as passed along every bottle in our carts if it meant that we’d be okay, but it wasn’t nearly enough."

John was being pulled in two directions. One where everyone was deciding that John's sole purpose in life is to be Jack's father and the other where John wants to keep being the outlaw he's always been. John has never really gotten what he wanted, especially when Arthur Morgan was involved, but maybe that's ok because with everything going on, maybe John will finally learn that what he wanted wasn't what he actually needed.

"You made that sunset real pretty." John whispered, holding Arthur tighter than he'd held anyone in twelve years.
"'Course I did, my Johnny boy was comin' home."

    Summary

A wholesome series in which Arthur Morgan and John Marston are living safely together, and very much in love, on their own homestead. Growing their own crops, breeding horses, and making their own way. No explanation as to how or why, they just are.

    Summary

Arthur frowns down at his glass. “So it didn’t mean anything to you, then? You like tryin' to hook up with truckers or something?”

John realizes he’s digging himself into a bigger hole than he’d meant to. He runs over his options but when he looks back at Arthur, he can see a tinge of hurt under his curiosity.

“I don’t hook up with truckers,” John says flatly. “I don’t do much hookin' up at all, actually. I just read some signals wrong that night. Thought maybe... Well, you’re a nice man. I knew that since I met you.”

    _______________

John is adrift. Twenty-five and nothing to show for it, he’s a college drop out, his car barely runs, and his trailer leans to one side. He works a dead-end warehouse job in the hottest town in the desert. All in all, he’d call himself a failure.
The moments he looks forward to most are when trucker Arthur Morgan passes through town. It’s not enough, though. John wants more out of life, and he wants more from Arthur Morgan.
