They’d locked eyes across the quieting field of reunions, and suddenly Kentaro’s two years seemed to vanish. Suddenly, he and May were back in the middle of their trip around the world hunting Monarch secrets.
Specifically, they were back in San Francisco, overhearing Cate’s argument with her mother.
That had been the start of what she supposed she and Kentaro had become, now. Any awkwardness that once existed, or still existed, between them was secondary to the fact they both cared about Cate and needed her to be okay.
And Cate… was not okay.
