Summary
The absolute worst part about flying was the landing. Not the jarring, rubber-burning impact of the tires hitting the tarmac, but the dreadful, irrevocable finality of the seatbelt sign chiming off.
It was the sound of the spell breaking.
For five and a half hours, suspended thirty thousand feet above the continental United States, Kip Grady hadn’t been America’s Golden Boy. He hadn’t been the tragic, broken figure skater who collapsed on global television, and he certainly hadn't been the PR nightmare currently giving US Figure Skating executives an ulcer. For five and a half hours, he had just been a nineteen-year-old guy, tucked into the dim, pressurized cabin of a Boeing 757, safely anchored by the heavy, radiating body heat of the man sitting next to him.

Summary
The rain in the Writer’s District did not fall; it was dictated. It descended in straight, unrelenting lines, driven by a sky that looked less like clouds and more like spilled ink on wet parchment.
Gustave stood at the edge of the congregating crowd, the black wool of his mourning coat already heavy with dampness. He kept his left hand—the brass and piston construct—shoved deep into his pocket. The cold weather always made the metal contract, sending sharp, phantom aches shooting up from the mechanical forearm into the living flesh of his shoulder. He welcomed the pain. It was a grounding tether, a reminder that he was still here, even if the only person in this city who tolerated him was not.
Or:
The one where Gustave meets Verso in a dystopian Paris amidst the brewing civil war between the Painters and the Writers. -

Summary
The silence in the penthouse was physical. It didn't just hang in the air; it pressed down on Scott’s chest, heavy and suffocating, like a three-hundred-pound defenseman pinning him to the boards.
It was 3:42 AM.
Scott was sitting on the edge of the sprawling, unmade king-sized bed, wearing the same tailored tuxedo pants from the gala, his bowtie discarded somewhere in the hallway. He was staring at the floorboards between his bare feet. He hadn't moved in three hours. Not since he had watched Kip turn around, walk out the heavy oak door, and take all the warmth in the apartment with him.

Summary
Kip didn’t wake up, because waking up implied that at some point during the night, he had actually managed to fall asleep.
Instead, he just lay there as the pale, unforgiving gray of Saturday morning crept through the blinds of his childhood bedroom in Queens. His eyes burned, feeling like they were coated in crushed glass, and his chest possessed a tight, hollow ache that made drawing a full breath feel like a monumental task.
He rolled over, the springs of his old mattress groaning in the quiet apartment, and his gaze landed on the desk chair.
The suit was draped over the back of it. It looked out of place in his cramped, messy room—too sharp, too expensive, too imbued with the scent of Manhattan and expensive cologne. Kip stared at the dark fabric, his vision blurring.

Summary
"So, what's the plan, Golden Boy?" Scott asked, leaning back against the headrest, completely unbothered by Kip’s prickly demeanor. "You going to spend the whole flight glaring a hole through the fuselage, or are you going to accept that we're stuck together?"
"I prefer 'Golden Boy' to 'wall-crasher'," Kip shot back, a spark of genuine irritation finally overriding his exhaustion. "And for the record, figure skating requires precision, balance, and absolute control. It's an art form. Your sport requires a mouthguard and a high tolerance for concussions."
To Kip’s surprise, Scott didn't bristle. Instead, the corners of his mouth twitched, and a slow, devastating smile spread across his face. It fundamentally altered the hockey player's entire demeanor, erasing the stoic, intimidating aura and replacing it with something warm, incredibly charming, and deeply lethal.

Summary
The bullet misses Dr Jack Abbot’s vest by inches. It was just supposed to be another casual mission aiding the SWAT team as their physician. How did it go so wrong? He's been in Trauma 1 many times but never like this, never as the man lying bleeding on the bed.
When Robby sees that it's him who is wheeled in on the gurney, it takes all his strength to keep it together, even as his chest feels like it has been cracked wide open.

Summary
They sat there in silence for a few seconds before Robby rasped out, “You have to go- You have to go, they need you out there.”
Jack corrected him. “They need us out there.”
Another beat of silence.
“I can’t-“
Before Robby could finish that sentence, Jack was on his feet, he couldn’t do it; he couldn’t handle seeing Robby like this, defeated, almost like he had given up... It was too familiar, it couldn’t be.
He extended a hand to him. He was going to get up, and they were going to get through this day. Together.

What if it had been Abbot who found Robby in Pedes?

Summary
If he were at home, he’d be at the Pitt finishing up a shift, hoping whatever they were in the middle of would slow down long enough to round with Robby. But he wasn’t home, he was in Baltimore at the International Disaster and Emergency Resilience Symposium where he was expected to close out the three-day conference with a lecture on crisis leadership, improvisation, and austere care. That meant not only being awake during the day but also being on, prepared to network, interact, and provide insight without having his hand in someone’s chest cavity. ---He was honored to be asked, but it was a bigger ask than he had been anticipating.

Summary
“Too old for you, Miss James,” Abbot replied easily, tossing his gloves in the bin.
The girl smirked. “You sure?”
“Oh, I’m sure,” Abbot nodded, patting Crus on the shoulder to signal that they were good to splint. “And even if I wasn’t,” he continued, pulling his chain out of his shirt. “I’m tied-down.”—
5 times the staff of the Pitt wonder who Abbot and Robby’s partners are + 1 time they realize the two attendings are each other’s.
