Summary
After the fight in the grocery store, Buck feels like he's causing too much damage so he drops the lawsuit and leaves LA, joining a hotshot wildland firefighter crew out of Montana. He's gone for six months until he gets a call from Chris that something is wrong with Eddie, causing him to race back home only to find a very confused Eddie instead of a hurt or depressed Eddie. Eddie talks him into coming inside for a beer and after that Buck can't bring himself to leave the Diaz boys behind again. But that doesn't mean he's ready to talk to anyone else yet. So they just don't tell anyone else Buck is back. For over two years. Even when they start dating.
Three years after he left LA and the 118, there's a pileup on the 210 in La Tuna Canyon Park and a wildfire racing towards all the crews scrambling desperately to get everyone out in time, including the 118. Buck's crew is in the right place at the right time, and they don't hesitate to come help.

Summary
"I don't want you to come near me," the civilian says, clutching onto his arm with all the possessiveness of a man who believes something will be stolen from him. This is one reason why Eishia doesn't like being on the field – there's more chance of having to interact with non-Givers and they really tend to not like her.

Summary
Zanka has had Eishia's hands in his stomach, an open wound, and she's been covered in his cooling blood, but it is this which has his breath caught in his throat – more an act of trust than anything else.

Summary
Zanka doesn't know where he is for a moment. His mind is still stuck on the battlefield – still writhing in the belly of the trash beast. Then he looks down at Eishia's hand and finally registers the reality of the situation. He's home. The fight seeps out of his body, his shoulders slumping like the strings holding him up have been cut loose. When he tries to speak, all that comes out is a croak which causes Eishia's smile to flutter. She steps back. Gives him the space he needs while he clears his throat and tries again.
Or: Zanka wakes up after the battle. Eishia is there.

Summary
There's only a smattering of people around the hall, though Eishia doesn't pay attention to who exactly. She's on a time crunch, the mission of getting the last lasagne being of great importance. It's as she's weaving around the tables that a familiar voice calls out and stops her in her tracks. "Eishia!"
Zanka is sat down at an adjacent table. He's paler under the strong fluorescence and Eishia is only slightly surprised that he's alone. Not many people adhere to the same strict schedule he does, not many are bullheaded enough to try. He waves her over and though the gesture coats her skin like saltwater, she complies.
Or: Eishia doesn't know what to make of her own emotions even on a good day. Zanka makes it more difficult.
