Max had just — Max had been Max about it, which meant he'd wanted something and then pursued it with the exact same focus and total disregard for obstacles that he brought to everything else in his life. Max wanted a championship, so he drove like a man possessed and fought for every tenth of a second. Max wanted Daniel, apparently, so he'd shown up at Daniel's hotel door.

Summary
Getting a podium is not that big of a deal to Max these days, he doesn't necessarily need to be personally congratulated on every P3. Especially by a driver he's not even teammates with anymore. Besides, Daniel obviously had bigger things to worry about. And yet. Max woke up the next day and realized that there was nothing from Daniel where there usually would've been, and for the first time in a long time Max felt empty.

2018 is over, and it feels like everything Max and Daniel used to have is over too.
