Summary
Something is wrong.
Buck can’t shake the feeling.
He isn’t sure what it is, because, surface level, things are better right now than they’ve been in nine days. Eddie is awake. He’s talking. He’s laughed a time or two.
He’s a little confused, obviously. A little foggy. He says he has a killer headache, which makes sense for the head injury he sustained, but otherwise doesn’t seem like he’s feeling terrible. Buck knows from his own coma that it had only taken a few days for him to know logically, if not emotionally, that the things from his dream were never real.
Eddie says he didn’t have a dream, though, and he’s still acting…funny.
Buck is acting funny.
His chair is further away from Eddie’s bed than it was yesterday when he sits back down, the last one left. The night shift. Only one visitor allowed between 9pm and 9am, and that’s Buck. Which is right. But he’s sitting too far away.

Chris goes through his memory of the stories told at dinner time: plane crash, earthquake, bombing, tsunami, mudslide, shooting—wow it really is a long list.
“Yeah, they’ve seen lots of—wait, dads?” Chris’ brain suddenly halts, processing Jeremy’s full statement.
“Yeah! Or your dad and stepdad, sorry!”
“Buck’s not my dad—or stepdad.”
Jeremy slumps back into his cafeteria seat, brows furrowed. “Oh? I just—you guys seemed very…close.”
Christopher gets confused about Buck's place in their family, and starts to ask questions—questions that Buck and Eddie don't have answers to.

"He does?" Buck asks, looking at Eddie curiously.
Eddie looks away, cheeks colouring. The two pendants under his shirt burn against his skin.
Theo nods enthusiastically. "He likes flowers and he likes you, so you should give him flowers Buck."
"Yeah Buck," Chris singsongs. "You should give him ~flowers~."

It's not the same though, because he was supposed to be Eddie’s to protect. This happened on Eddie’s watch and now he can’t even sit up without his vision graying out. He’s useless to Buck like this, and if he can’t have Buck’s back he doesn't even know what he’s good for.

The tsunami happens after the lawsuit while Buck is on the outs with his team. He meets Chris at the pier but once the boys is safe he fears Eddie's reaction and makes Chris promise that he didn't see him. Buck goes home alone. And hurt.
