Summary
Eddie knew that there was something up with Buck, he could always tell when something was wrong with his best friend, because even after only a year Eddie was certain he knew Buck better than he knew himself. And there was definitely something off about the other man.
He tried to keep a close eye on him, always glancing over at him when he wasn’t stuck to his hip, wanting to make sure he was okay. After everything he’d been through, Buck had to be okay.
At some point Buck had begun coughing, little closed mouthed coughs, like he was trying to hide them, but of course Eddie noticed, so he upped his surveillance.
And then the cough got worse, and worse, and worse, until Buck was staggering back and then collapsed to the floor.
or
After passing his recertification test Buck suffers from a pulmonary embolism, and it only gets worse from there.

Summary
I’ve known Buck longer than you’ve been alive. He’s never taken you to the zoo or driven you to school or cooked you your favourite meal from scratch just because you asked. He’s never saved you from a tsunami. He’s never held you through nightmare after nightmare. He’s never come back from the dead because you told him to. He’s never sacrificed himself over and over and over to keep you safe. He’s never loved you like he loves me.
Logically, Christopher knows there’s a reason Buck hasn’t done any of these things for Theo. He hasn’t been given the chance to. Yet.

Chris figures out his place in Buck’s life. He just has to yell at a child first.

Summary
“He doesn’t sleep.” The sentence ripped out of Buck before he could stop it. Tears threatened to spill as he brought his hand up, waving it around like it could solve all his problems. Admitting to his failure made him feel like a monster. “We’ve tried melatonin, tea, extra bedtime stories, exercising— Nothing works. Nothing works and Eddie, I am so fucking tired.”
Pathetic. He was pathetic. Almost every new parent went through a phase where their kid barely slept. Everyone else could handle it, including Maddie and Chim, so why couldn’t he? How did they push through feeling so beyond sick, that left and right and up and down all looked the same?
Earlier, he swore he saw the version of Daniel he saw in his coma dream lurking behind him. Did they see ghosts too?
A soft thumb ran over his cheek. Buck couldn’t stop himself from leaning into it.
“Baby,” Eddie whispered, soft and oh-so-concerned. In no universe did Buck deserve him. “Why didn’t you tell me?”
—
Or the one where Theo has kept Buck awake for four days straight, and Eddie won't let him fall any further.
