A head-on collision on a busy street sends books flying and sweeps Steve off his feet. The point of impact has a name: James. A charming mess of long hair, thick glasses, and a crooked, not-quite-smile. If he recognizes Steve, he chooses not to comment, placing him firmly in Steve's good graces.
As far as Steve can tell, they might be Bogie and Bacall all over again, save for the group of idiots with selfie sticks who surround them. But for once, the request isn't for Steve.

He knows it's an awful plan, dangerous at best and a death sentence at worse, but he can't stand to bounce from house to house with promises that "this will be the one". His caseworker has said that about every single house he's been fostered in, all 17 of them, so he doesn't let the words build even the smallest bit of hope as they pull up in front of the cozy-looking house sat on the coast of Newhaven.
Legally, he can become independent at 16. Currently, he's 15. The Watson house only has to deal with him for a few months before he's gone. He just has to hold out those months until he's free.
Would that really make him free?or
Tommy Doe, ward of the state and resident "problem foster kid", plans on becoming emancipated at 16. Phil, Wilbur, and Technoblade might change that plan.

(...)"I don't care," he snaps, hoping, praying, that Phil gives him some kind of reaction other than kindness. Because he can handle anger, knows what to do with aggression. He can't handle this house; these kind smiles and soft promises that every other house has proven to be lies.

"...no," it feels like a confession, like he's admitting that he ruins everything he loves. "I had a meltdown over fucking clothes, believe it or not.
