Summary
Giyuu knelt at the bedside of the sick child, watched as Urokodaki attempted to feed the medicine. Giyuu studied him; laboured breathing mixed with what sounded like phlegm and a congested nose. A mess of black curls was all that spilt out of the futon, connected to a sweating and pale face with just a single scar over his right cheek. Giyuu relaxed somewhat as Urokodaki was successful. "His name?"
"Genya." Urokodaki responded, wringing out a towel and replacing it with the one already on the child's forehead.
"How do I help?" Giyuu asked.

Genya managed to make his way into the remote mountains of Urokodaki's home just a few years before Tanjiro.

So, yes, he wasn’t good with people, and if most of his own colleagues couldn’t understand him, weren’t willing to try, how could anyone else?
That’s what he had thought, anyway.
But apparently, children were different.
He didn't know how or why, but the children Giyuu encountered over the years seemed to like him and didn’t mind that he was a man of few words.
OR
Giyuu is a subtle mother hen to children because there was no way he'd let this harsh world chew them up and spit them out.
