His life had been uprooted and ripped apart when he and Mikey had been drugged and taken nearly four years ago. Other people show up too and chaos begins as Gerard starts to receive disturbing, anonymous threats.Accidentally stumbling upon an active fire lookout tower he meets Frank and falls for him almost instantly. For Gerard the age gap makes it all more exciting, while Frank struggles with that, or so it seems.

The drive is quiet, but Frank’s mind is louder than a megaphone in a wind tunnel. Every thought arrives with sirens and flashing lights, each one chirping like malware pop-ups on a caffeine bender. He tries to focus on the road – cracked pavement, people picking their noses at traffic lights, Subaru Guy auditioning for Mad Max. But his mind keeps rerouting back to Gerard. Not in a hearts-and-flowers way, more like a ‘who even is this guy and why is he lodged in my frontal lobe’ kind of way. He flips through radio stations, but either he’s no longer their target demo or he’s officially old enough to bitch about autotune.
