Summary
First, it had been Juniper and Dylan. Those in District 7 stood with their mouths gaped open in shock as they watched the two teenagers get reaped for the 66th Hunger Games. Out of fear and denial, they tried to chalk it up to chance. After all, there was no way those kids had been picked.
But when Cynthia and Jasper were reaped the following year the people could no longer deny it. This had nothing to do with chance. It was all by design. They were being chosen for a very specific purpose—to send a message to the district.
By the time Willow and Finley had been reaped, everyone had come to expect it. The only consolation was that most families didn’t have to worry about their children getting sent to their deaths. They weren’t on what had been deemed the list.
And so, by the time the 69th Hunger Games came around, Halle Croft knew she was next.
Because she was the only one left.

Summary
734 days. You'd been a prisoner, locked and hidden away in this solitary cell for over two years. Others there had committed petty crimes or made themselves an enemy of the Ultranationalists, and before them— the Soviet Union.
A majority of prisoners hadn't done anything wrong at all, though they were too poor, too educated, or simply too much of a threat to the regime. Anyone could have been in the cell next to yours for any reason. But you? You knew why you were expected to rot away there.
It was either die of disease or malnutrition in your cell, long forgotten by anyone who'd known your name, or be found by either side of the conflict and be killed. Death had called to you for a while; you didn't fear it. And you didn't fear the three, foreign operators when they broke through the door to your prison cell— or when the one with the skull mask held an assault rifle to your head.
❝And who the fuck is this?❞

Astarion didn't care much for you and your people-pleasing tendencies until he realized exactly what they could mean for him. If you were that desperate for approval—for the hard-earned praise of others—perhaps he could be the one to deliver. There were certainly plenty of benefits for him to reap.
***
Preview:You looked so proud of yourself, drool pooling at the corners of your lust-drunk smile. Your hair was mussed and wild, but your expression was utterly tame, almost domestic.
Astarion worried, momentarily, that he might actually end up being the one to crawl back to you. You made him feel so in control, so powerful. And so, so good.
