Well, all that aside, this fic is taking a very unique stance in how it's dealing with Subaru's introduction into the world as well as exploring the great potential for there to be inherent, notable differences between humans from our world and humans from the Re:Zero World. I can't wait to see where this goes!

    It didn't take long after the events of the Sanctuary for Subaru to find himself unable to fall asleep. Things between him and his contracted spirit were going well, but as unfortunate as it was, the adorable spirit didn't have a magic spell to cure insomnia.

    The exhaustion and struggles born from the lack of sleep, along with the shame of bothering everyone else with it, made him choose a way out he normally wouldn't have ever considered.

    Peaceful nights is all he asks for, I suppose!

    I really enjoy stories that fixate on how Subaru copes with his trauma, guilt, and lasting struggles. And given his drive to hide his problems as much as possible and fix things for himself on his own, I've always wondered how it would go if he tried to go down the self-medicating route of things. He really seems like the type of person to be readily vulnerable to that kind of thing, and it would clash horribly with how Return by Death works, since even if it activates and erases the physiological dependence, he would still have to pull through the psychological effects. And, geez, imagine RBDing into the middle of dealing with unsavory side effects and withdrawl symptoms...It's very much the kind of trap that would be a real nightmare to deal with on top of everything else.

    This is a fantastic example of creating emotional tension and chemistry that doesn't go overboard in trying to show you what's going on. It makes the people feel real and the yearning so AAAAAAAAA.

    I'll be using this as a reference in how to accomplish grounded emotional realism and chemistry in my own writing lol.
