Summary
Experiments with human DNA created a variety of hybrids, so called Humas, and nearly wiped normal humans off the planet. Wars, battles for dominance and land, ensued.
Dog Humas took over North America. They keep Cat Humas as pets, thinking that a naturally submissive race can not live without the protection of a dominant.
Nico di Angelo, one of Neo New York's literal top dogs, has always been irked by that idea. So when a supposedly errand boy from his law firm collapses after having taken bad heat suppressants, Nico realizes that ordinary, timid human Percy Jackson is neither ordinary, by far not timid and not even human and that realization will change Nico's life forever.

Summary
Percy Jackson was just an ordinary kid.
Or so he thinks until he learns that his father is a merman – and that Percy shares that supernatural heritage. Everything seems to crash down around Percy when Poseidon learns about the domestic abuse Percy and Sally suffer at Gabe's hands and thinks he has a right to take Percy away from home.
