"'Do you… need to talk about anything?” he ended up settling on, not entirely keen on telling Dean he could smell his blood whenever he hurt himself.
His brother frowned, snapping a quick “No, I’m fine, Sam.” before looking back down to his burger and fries.
He stopped eating them, though.
“What’re you trying to get at?” Dean said, after a moment, eyes sharpening.
Sam shook his head. No time like the present if there might not be one soon.
“I know you hurt yourself-”
“Like Hell I do,” they both winced at the choice of words, recovering quickly, “I don’t. Where’d ya get that idea from, Sammy?'"
or: Sam can smell when Dean self harms due to the demon blood in his veins. It goes well for neither of them, when Sam finally has enough of pretending, and says that he knows.

"Will felt the ghost of a smile creep in and possess him, despite the blood soaking through them, staining, dripping out every precious second. His cheek flared and burned as the wound stretched, and he grinned, blood leaking out the edge of his mouth.
He felt nearly high, surrounded by coppery gore, bleeding out, grinning in front of the man who looked at him with pride and love over the blood they just spilled.
“It's beautiful.” He ushered out from his mind, the thought immediate and intimate.
It was beautiful in its own awful way. Something on the edge of the way the birth of a life could be, sticky and bloody and full of hope and despair, beauty and pain."

Pupils dilated and Will knew he stuck a chord of that jealous instrument. Perhaps even the Ripper, beyond Hannibal's suit, seethed."

Or: after Wills failed attempt at murdering Hannibal via Matthew Brown, the man visits him at the BSHCI. Will decides to play up a rumor after seeing how much it riles Hannibal's composure, rather than denying it like Hannibal had assumed he would. They both take it as far as they possibly can, getting down and dirty in Will's cell.

It was terror and beauty wrapped into one shade, and he closed his eyes, the image of the ear - Abigail's ear - inescapable even behind that darkness.
Reopening them moments later, he tore his eyes away from the flesh and blood to see a figure. Hannibal, the thing with his face and its own warped body, skeletal frame defined and antlers reaching high up to the ceiling. The grey hue of ink followed it, warping and taking over his home, and he wasn't afraid of it."

The first time she meets him, he's nothing more than an almost-missed appointment.

Dean is silent for a long, tense moment, then he gruffly says, "It's not for banishing the angels. It's to summon them. So, it doesn't—it's not to get rid of 'em, but to draw 'em in."
Mitzi can't help but glance up at him at that. His voice is so heavy with so much unexplained pain, and she doesn't understand why, or what angels have to do with it. She knows religion can impact people. She's very aware that it can get complicated, and that it can be a huge source of pain for someone, but Dean sounds grievously wronged, somehow, as if it's a truly personal thing.
She pushes through, focusing back on her job, clearing her throat before murmuring, "Well, I guess we all want angels to visit us sometimes."
"Just the one," Dean mumbles.
"Your guardian angel?" Mitzi asks.
Dean breathes out, "Something like that. As close to one as an angel will ever get."

Summary
