“Is she the one you like?” June asks. Mewnich’s eyes follow her gaze to find who she is referring to. June is looking at Prim. When Mewnich feels Prim’s eyes shift toward them, she quickly looks away.“She’s beautiful,” June says. There isn’t a trace of bitterness in her voice. Only sincere appreciation.
The younger woman gives her arm a playful swat. “Hey. Don’t go stealing her from me,” she teases.
“I won’t steal her from you, Mewnich. You’re the one I like.”
They continue to dance, and Mewnich realizes June might know her better than she thought when she felt the warmth of June’s fingertips graze her chin, “Don’t look back. She’s with Tu.”
“I know.”
“And you’re with me.”
“P’June... I’m sorry.”
