"What...?"
Louis opens his eyes, groggy and momentarily confused. It's dark. He's in his coffin – that is, he and Lestat are in his coffin. Judging by the exhaustion, it's probably daylight out, making his body feel leaden. Although he'd ensured that the drapes were closed and sufficiently thick to block out most of the light, a vampire can be none too careful. He is still emerging from the dredges of slumber when he feels a hand scrabble at his shoulder.
"Louis. Louis, I'm frightened."
That gets his attention.
"Les? What's wrong, baby?"
The pet name slips out automatically. Even after seventy-seven years of deception, pettiness, and emptiness, an entire human lifetime without him, the urge to comfort Lestat is second nature. He is grimly aware of the divide between them like a chasm. They are husbands no longer; they are closer to strangers. But the chord that tethers them is not merely one of a Maker and his fledgling.

“Rest will do us very little good when we’re all dead or jailed as a result of my failings.”
It’s apparent immediately that was a poor choice of words. Before he can so much as react, the schematic is snatched off of the desk, held tightly in Juno’s hand.
“Juno!”
“No. I can’t let you look at these anymore. Not tonight.”
Nureyev isn’t sure he’s ever heard Juno speak to him so sternly and, at present, he loathes it.
“Give that back to me this instant!” He exclaims shrilly, trying desperately to ignore the petulance in his voice.

Summary
Nureyev sits at his desk, floorplans and schematics sprawled before him when he hears it. It’s taken very little time abord the Carte Blanche to memorize the footfalls of each of his crewmates, but Nureyev is already entirely familiar with this set of footsteps. Heavy, powerful, but, most importantly, rather loud. He never was one for subtly, was he?
He pauses, listening to the sound of pacing in the hallway. He’s deliberating, Peter can feel it in the sudden thickness in the air. His eyes glance to his comms; 2:00 A.M., ship-time. The pacing continues, for a moment, and he wonders if he’d stand out there all night if he let him.
He wouldn’t, of course. He’s not nearly that cruel. But still, he waits another moment, the schematics in front of him, for once, long since forgotten. He hears a sigh from the other side of the door, the breath quavering and heavy. He’s halfway out of his chair when there’s a gentle knock at the door. He shuts the lamp on his desk out, stacking the papers as though they are of little importance. His walk to the door is brisk but refuses to let this sudden urgency show on my face. He fails.

“Hey, you’re the one who loves hearing my heartbeat.” Wait, nope, shouldn’t’ve said that. That definitely seems like too much, somehow. I feel my cheeks heating up.
Rocky’s claws fidget against the xenonite. “Yes. I do. Is good sound,” he insists, more quietly than I’d expected. “Means you still alive."
“Yeah.” I’m so alive right now that I can feel the pulse jumping in my throat. “That’s, um. That’s good.”
In the back of my mind, a very cool and rational part of myself is telling me: hey, since you’re on the subject of internal organs, why not take this opportunity to ask Rocky to feel you up so he can check on your appendix/gallbladder situation? Unfortunately, the rest of my mind just heard ask Rocky to feel you up and had the psychic equivalent of a seizure.

Summary
Healy didn’t know if March was aware. They had never done anniversaries. But it was something about ten years that just felt so significant. Maybe the fact that he didn’t forget this time, or the fact that Healy felt so lucky that every day for the past decade, March had woken up beside him, a greying, overweight man over ten years his senior, and decided to stay.
So… what do you do for your partner when you want to celebrate but you don’t know how? Healy doesn’t know the answer.
