Summary
It doesn't matter. No matter the story, Verso has a chance to die still being of use.
He'll provoke him into a fight. Try and kill him, as hopeless as the notion may be. If he wins, a 'monster' is no longer haunting this place. If he loses, then the vampire will feed on him. Then he'll be nothing.
He wants to lose. Being a free meal is better than living.
OR
Verso, the last Dessendre, goes to find the resident vampire in Lumiere's woods with some elaborate suicide mission. He doesn't expect the vampire to take him to his home instead. He doesn't expect to fall in love either.

Verso saved Gustave's life at the Stonewave Cliffs and still won't admit why (not even to himself). Now it's freezing, Gustave is too stubborn to say he's cold, and Verso has been quietly, hopelessly gone for him for longer than he'll ever confess.
Or: there was only one blanket.

Summary
”En gardé, monsieur!”
Verso has a second to register it before he realizes he’s being cornered by three, very serious children. Gustave’s apprentices, to be more precise. Not the threat he first would’ve thought of, but there you go.
”What are your intentions towards Gustave?”
In which the apprentices have had enough of Verso & Gustave’s pining and confront Verso. They might also recruit some help while they're at it, and Verso suffers.
