Summary
Mario and Luigi are tasked with helping E. Gadd clear out an old storage room over on Thwomp Volcano, an area basically untouched following the eruption during the Shroob Wars; his reasoning was that there may be some old files and equipment that survived the eruption (why he believed they would still be intact is anyone's guess). While there, they stumble upon (and accidentally activate) Robo Mario, a scrapped war machine E. Gadd designed to protect himself just in case the Shroobs attacked his old lab.
And... let's just say the bros find out exactly WHY Robo Mario was scrapped.
See... E. Gadd maybe forgot to give Robo Mario the ability to tell who's a threat and who's a friend. Hijinx ensues, and Mario eventually manages to knock the robo boy out. Understandably, Mario is put off by him and is more than happy to leave him behind... but then Luigi offers a suggestion:
"What if we teach him...?"

Whenever Foreman Spike finds a brother by himself, trouble will always follow. This particular day, he steals Luigi’s shoes and locks them up in his own locker. Luigi is forced to walk home with nothing on his feet but socks. In the pouring rain. When he finally gets home, he's soaking wet, freezing cold, and quickly becomes sick.
Mario is, understandably, very angry. But he has greater things to worry about. Namely, a sick little brother who needs him.
