Summary
Eight weeks have passed since the tourney at Ashford, eight weeks since Aerion lost his virginity to Ser Duncan. Though he tried to forget him, Aerion finds himself consumed by memories of the strong alpha who shared his heat with him and changed his life forever. When his father insists that Aerion choose a mate, or the decision will be made for him, he comes up with a plan that may be more foolish than clever. He insists that they hold a tourney at Summerhall, and that the winner will be granted his hand in marriage. Though reluctant, Maekar agrees. But for Aerion, the stakes are far higher. Summary
After the Ashford Meadow's incident, Prince Maekar decreed, on his father's behalf, to marry off his second and only Omega son, Prince Aerion Targaryen, to an Ironborn from the Iron Islands. Through the exchanging of letters with his youngest son, a sorrowful Maekar confessed how deep down he still hoped for Aerion's redemption, hoped that marriage duty would fix him. For Prince Aegon "Egg" Targaryen, it must have been a miraculous marriage blessed by The Drowned God to change his monstrous brother.
To their expectations, Aerion's flame had been allayed. To their unexpectations, Aerion's flame never burned again.

"I am offering a choice, Prince Maekar," the maester stammered, pulling a scalpel out of his satchel.
The blade caught the flickering candlelight, wickedly sharp. "A horrific choice. We can wait for him to wake. But, it is a fatal gamble. If the fire returns, he will die screaming."
The maester slowly lowered it, pointing towards the lower half of Aerion's spine.
"Or… I take my blade, and I intentionally sever the spinal cord. I cut the nerves dead."
Aerion receives the blow of the mace, and Maekar has to choose between killing the body or killing the spirit. Whatever the outcome is, Dunk is charged to mend the broken dragon. Inspired by Me Before You.

After having fought with Prince Aerion in the puppet tent, Duncan is brought before the council to be judged. Though, instead of a trial by combat, or death by hanging, he is made a knight of the Kingsguard - to keep Aerion in his place, and to perhaps even make a friend of him.

But then, as the Prince approached him with all the wrath and madness of the beast on his banners, he suddenly stopped in his tracks; It took but a second for it to hit Dunk; that scent, the Prince's scent, strong and alluring and captivating and powerful like he had never felt before. Dunk's breath caught in his throat, eyes fluttering shut for a long second as he breathed it in, breathed Aerion Targaryen in; at once, his body failed, knees buckling, the Kingsguards cursing at the sudden unsupported weight.He was an omega.
