Summary
Tony and Peter stop at a spooky inn during a fall road trip to Salem, MA
Tony frowned. His mentee was missing an important trip because of him. That design was mostly Peter’s. The programming might have been mostly Ted’s, but the design was all Peter. And who were these other brats who were trying to go and take credit? No, Tony wasn’t about to let that happen.
Peter stared at the floor as he continued, his jaw tight. “It’s a weekend thing, so they’re going as a group. Together. Flash is driving them up … and, well, there’s no room for me.” Peter finished quietly, ears burning red.
Tony felt his blood pressure rise. Flash. Of course. And why should Peter feel embarrassed about being left out by that punk?
Tony bit back a sigh. He knew it must sting, regardless, to be left out. “I’ll take you, Roo.”
Peter froze, eyes snapping up to search Tony’s face. “You’ll take me?” He looked confused. “Mr. Stark, it’s all the way in Boston.”

Summary
There it was again. A frantic, desperate longing for something he could not name, knowing only that he was lacking, but unable to say what. It had never been like this, not that he could remember, and yet it felt ancient, older than he was, a feeling clawing for space behind his ribs.
Telemachus was a couple of winters away from being crowned, and here he was, trembling hands outstretched to his father, his eyes averted so he would not have to see the blood. He felt silly, letting his father dote on him like this. He was a man, taking after his mother to tower over Odysseus when the two walked abreast, and he was a prince, and he sat before Odysseus now with a twenty year wide rift between them, with no way to bridge the gap but talk. Telemachus had faith that they could do it. They had all the time in the world.
Still, nothing would ever change the fact that he had grown up without a father, and that void would forever sit empty.
He ached. Even now that Odysseus was here, Telemachus ached for him to have been there.

Or: Until his father returned, Telemachus never knew how much grief he held for all the years without him. It’s not too late to catch up, though.

Summary
“Telemachus,” Penelope said, passing a loving hand over her—their—son’s head. “This is your father.”
Odysseus heard the words as if underwater. He couldn’t believe he was hearing them at last, was seeing his son grown nearly as tall as him, that boyish face lighting up without hesitation, without a moment of doubt. He thought he might hesitate, that he’d keep his hands firm at his sides until Telemachus set the pace, careful not to intrude. He’d never really known his father, after all. But Telemachus bounced, at once caught up in an excitement that made Odysseus ache.
“He came back?” he asked, bright-eyed. Then, to Odysseus: “You came back!”
He had the voice of a growing boy, breaking on some syllables—even more so, it seemed, when he was excited. And it was all worth it, then. That pure, shining joy, the way there was not a second’s worth of disbelief. Odysseus’ eyes stung, and he hardly had enough time to open his arms before Telemachus was pushing himself between them.

Summary
Odysseus knew that in being gone for twenty years, he had missed his son growing up. And at least part of him knew that his son had learned to deal with all the stresses caused by his absence in various ways.
What he didn’t know was that one of those ways was…being a little less grown up.Bookmarked by Jenny7152
