And the third rule? Don’t get attached. Keep your circle small so there’s less collateral to be used against you — against the organization that owns you.
For the longest time, Sanemi Shinazugawa found Rule Three to be the easiest one to follow. He has his brother and no one else. His parents are dead; he has no friends beyond those in the Corps with him, and he knows better than to get overly invested in any of them. His inner circle is as tight as it can get.
But then he chooses your bookstore to hide in, and that's when everything falls apart.

While Leona appraised you like you were a delicacy, Ruggie was laying beside you, busy toying with your clothes. His deft fingers ran around your shirt buttons, pressing down on them one second only to tug them up back up in the next. The threads strained against the rough treatment. He could have undone them in a few seconds with those clever hands of his, but he was taking great pleasure in seeing you squirm.
“You asked them a question,” Ruggie reminded Leona. “And they were a very rude kitten, because they haven’t answered their king yet.”
Leona chuckled at that, the sound dark and breathy. “I did, didn’t I? Well, herbivore? What do you want from us? Should we take those pesky clothes off and fill you up nice and full, or should we walk you back home like gentlemen? Wouldn’t want to overstep.”
