Summary
They're just eating and studying, it was no big deal. Studying was nothing new or special, though college is a bit more difficult than U.A. when it comes to academics.
But, well, Shouto has some thinking to do about his love life, because one day, he notices Katsuki again. His face was relaxed and his lips were slightly parted as he prepared snacks for a study session.
And yeah, the crimson red eyes and hay blonde hair did a lot for him. Maybe when Katsuki pushed his hero mask up, his hair being pushed back with it, Shouto has butterflies errupt in his stomach. Maybe when Bakugou fights and his smirk comes into full play, Shouto gets distracted. Maybe Shouto tries spicy, cold soba only because Katsuki recommends it. Maybe his breath catches in his throat when he realizes Katsuki is officially an inch taller than him.
What of it?
That's what friends feel for each other, right?
In which Katsuki has always had nuanced expressions, and Shouto is just now noticing.
And, of course, kind of takes it the wrong way.

Though not forgiven, Lance accepts Shiro's request that they try to be friends.

“Oh,” Katsuki says. He frowns hard for a minute and then grabs Shouto by the arm to whisk him away to his table with Izuku and Kirishima to guard him or sniff him or whatever weird territorial thing he wants to do.

Todoroki’s gaze goes a little quizzical. His hand is still on Katsuki’s chest. “Why?” he asks.
Katsuki’s heartbeat speeds up. And—god, it’s horrible. Maybe it’s the exhaustion or the bitterness of losing or some other form of temporary delirium, but all Katsuki can think about as he meets Todoroki’s eyes is, “Because I love you, you fucking bastard.”
The room goes quiet.
Or: Katsuki says something he shouldn't, then, eventually, does something he should.

Katsuki stabs his pasta so hard his cutlery shrieks against the plate, looking away from where Yaorashi has a large arm draped around Todoroki’s comparatively small shoulders. Maybe they should just jerk each other off while they’re at it. It’s just about as explicit.

Shouto hums. “Yeah, he doesn’t like it when—when other people try to touch me. He still gets pouty about that time I let Kaminari do body shots off me.”

It’s nice to be able to take care of someone who knows him, and maybe likes him. Someone whose trust is hard to win, and it’s given to Shouto of all people. He knows there’s nothing about him that would suggest that he could be good at this, or even knows how to do it.
They’re not dating, but if he could be with somebody like that...Shouto would want something just like this.
Bakugou said once that they weren't friends, so Shouto refuses to wrongfully assume, once again, that they've become more than that
