Summary
The conference itself would’ve been bad enough on its own. Three days in Virginia Beach with physicians from across the East Coast attending lectures and networking events and social hours that nobody actually wanted to participate in. But no, PTMC had also agreed to some commemorative panel recognizing the one-year anniversary of Pittfest.
Meaning Robby somehow ended up scheduled the next day to accept a departmental honor recognizing “exceptional leadership and emergency response coordination during mass casualty management.” There would apparently also be a plaque. A shiny new plaque to hang in the ED. Because nothing helped process collective trauma like polished wood and engraved brass.
Or, Robby is selected to sit on a conference panel commemorating Pittfest and accept an award on behalf of PTMC. (Inspired by the photo of Noah Wyle looking *lovingly* at a picture of Gerran/Dennis)

Dennis made to pull away, but Robby tightened his grip.
“Don’t you dare,” he chuckled.
Just like that, they were aware again. Aware of how Robby’s fingers were pressing searing marks straight into Dennis’ skin, spots that no other man was lucky enough to touch. With how loose the thing was, Robby could easily slide his hands up, up, upward under the fabric of the jumper and trace teasing fingertips over his ribs. He could duck down, hold Dennis in place and taste each mole and freckle there, leave a bitten red claim somewhere only they could find it. He had an idea, then.
“I’ll show you,” he said. Promised. “You’re pretty enough for Greek myths. Kingdoms would go to war over you, I’ll show you.”
(Or, Dennis' comfort is Robby's temptation.)

Summary
Robby coughs up his first blue petal the night after Pittfest.
But there's no reason for Dennis to know that he's Robby's soulmate. No reason for him to know that Robby is slowly dying. Because Robby is too broken to be anyone's partner - Dennis is definitely better off without him.

Summary
There was a hand on his knee—on his thigh, really.
Dennis finally had the bravery to look up into those eyes, and he swore his heart stuttered. Dr. Robby wasn’t looking at him in disgust, but like he was a mirage of water in the desert, something craved but fleeting. Blown pupils, erubescence of the face. If Dennis had a Holter monitor on him, he was sure it would be signaling arrhythmias.
Whatever was coming over Dr. Robby that night was a unique concoction of loneliness, drunkenness, and horny desperation; there was no guarantee it’d come again.
This was a no-strings hookup, with a man Dennis was not feeling very casually about. This was a bad, bad idea.
He nodded, realizing his own mouth was hanging open.
