Seven years since she had last spoken to either of them or Nessarose or Boq. Six years since she had last spoken to another human. Five years since digging out a bullet in the shoulder that never truly healed. Four years since the remaining Animals of Oz had lost their voices. Three years since she had last spoken to anyone. Two years since she had freed the last living Animal from Oz. One year since she had last stepped foot into the Emerald Empire hoping to change hearts and minds.
And now the Wonderful Wizard of Oz is dead.
Elphaba Thropp is so very tired. And so very alone.
