"When he was thousands younger, he lost his sister. His sister meant the universe to him." She paused, letting out a sigh as she hung there by her wrists and ankles. "The only reason he was a decent person was because of her; she saw the way the rest of her demonic family turned out and knew she wanted no part. She became the kindest pure demon of all time, proving that the mind is more powerful than the blood."
It seemed to physically hurt, seeing her up there- bruised and broken, not a care if she died. Through her pain, she continued.
"She was killed. The man who killed her was of Nephilim descent. Though he was a Shadowhunter, his mind was being magically possessed by a personal knight who was- at that time- the King of Angels. After her death- which he was forced to witness- he... changed. He turned into a monster. He blamed nearly everyone around him for the death of his little sister. But those he seemed to blame most? Summary
Alec was sitting in a corner of his office, alone. His whole body was trembling as the memory of what had happened the night before rolled over his very skin. He was curled up in a ball, as though it would protect him from the aftershock the night had left him with.
Everything hurt. Everything was cold. The world around him was crumbling and there was nothing he could do to stop it. The horror ripping through him was unparalleled and unwavering. He let out a fresh sob when he finally dared to look up.

Magnus was pacing. The lobby of his husband’s office was so small that the pacing was making him dizzy, but he didn’t stop. He was worried- worried and scared. His Alexander had been in his office for over 32 hours, alone; and has been fighting against every attempt Magnus has made to get him out.
He didn’t know what to do… What should he do? What was there to do? Magnus had no idea what was happening, and it scared him.

These books also address still unanswered questions many fans have about the certain relationships between many of the characters and where everything ends up and how. The magical study and incorporation that went into making these books was not light.
