  Summary

  Fern doesn't want to die.

  It shouldn't come as a surprise, not after how hard he fought to stay here, to root himself into Ooo with nothing more than force of will. He spent so long trying to carve out a place for himself, blades of grass wildly cutting and pushing and pulling at everything around them. He tried to dig himself a hole to lie in, to pot himself like the plant he is, but the hollowed out flesh he crawled into was only ever good at driving people away. Violently.

  The Hero's laugh seems to echo in time with the spell. "Maybe not."

  "You'll die down here," Dark Link says as flatly as he can manage, "Your flesh will rot from your bones and you'll be nothing more than a smear along the wall."

  "Like you?" the Hero asks, just as careful and meticulously cruel as the failure of a spell Dark Link cannot wield.
