What Mydei doesn't expect, however, is for the purported "Deliverer of Okhema" to find the whole arrangement just as distasteful as he does.

“He fell in love with a warrior in Okhema,” Mydei tells him, sliding a hand under his pillow. “They were equals in just about everything, and that’s… significant to a Kremnoan. He died sacrificing himself to buy that warrior time to save the city.”
“That sounds like something a hero would do to me.”
“Maybe,” Mydei grumbles. “A real hero wouldn’t leave the one he loves to fight alone.”
