Now all of his progress was threatening to jump out the window. What was he supposed to do with a friend that might've been a ghost all along, a friend who up until now had lived a pretty apparition-free life, and a mother who was acting rather suspicious?

But now it’s oh so different because although he's gone back to the time he can never really go back to the time. He's a different person now but the people he never really stopped loving, who died or were lost and are now standing before him again exactly the same as before you lost them, don’t know that. They could never understand even if he told them. He can’t even apologize for all the ways he hurt them because it wasn’t them. All he can do now is gather all that splintered guilt and try to shape into something resembling a warped shield (he's never been an expert at that craft—a project this complex requires far more skilled hands than his scorched ones, but he's all there is) and make sure it doesn’t happen again. All he can offer any of them is this nameless haunted thing he calls love. Will he desperately try to go back to who he was or will he hope they can learn to love this new him?

Always there to put a balancing hand to the middle of Cloud's back when he stumbled, or tugging Cloud eagerly along by the hand; casually directing him with a touch on the waist, squeezing his shoulder when Cloud began to tense, knocking their sides together when Zack could feel Cloud’s anxiety starting to spike. And always, always stepping in front of Cloud in battle, unerringly protective.
Zack comes back. He isn't the same.

I promise the actual story is either going to be far less cheerful than the summary or actually follows the tone. I have no idea until I complete it.
