    Baekjin’s eyes slowly widen as they shift to him. Seongmuk falters, his eyes wavering. 

    “He… might be in the hospital right now,” he somehow manages to say the rest. 

    The document slips from Baekjin’s hand. The motion feels distant, unreal, almost dramatic. But that’s exactly how it feels. Like his body is reacting before his mind can catch up. His heart plunges into a depth he didn’t even know existed.

    “What?”

     

    Or the one where Baku gets injured and Baekjin loses his mind.

    "Where is this coming from?"

    "Everything I do to get closer to him ends up being wrong." a quiet mumble, more for himself rather than the other boy.
    "He gives me some weird looks sometimes."

    And for a split second he swore he saw a realisation flash by Humin's eyes, understanding and a hint of pity.

    "It's Yeon Sieun. He gives everyone weird looks, you're not special.", Humin chuckled, letting the previous look completely dissolve behind playfulness, as though it had never been there.

    "I don't mean those looks.", Hyuntak's grin fell shortly,
    "Sometimes he looks at me like you did after everything happened.", he confessed vaguely, while motioning his hand around and nodding his head downwards, more specifically towards his knee.

    Humin didn't say a word.
    He barely even moved, opting to simply pull his hand away and tilt his head down.

    He knew. He had noticed too.

    “ You’re not invincible, Suho. “, Sieun bit back, most of his emotions getting caught behind his gritted teeth the same way they had been trapped under his skin ever since he was a kid

    “ You think I don’t know that already?”, Suho retorted with a scoff,“Neither of us is.”, he added quickly, the heat in his voice disintegrating the moment it cracked horribly at the realisation
    “ Don’t you think it’s unfair and hypocritical to believe that only you are allowed to worry for my safety? That only you can get hurt for my sake?"

    “It’s different.”

    “ How so?”, challenged Suho with a glint in his eye that could translate to both anger and disbelief.

    " Because I’ve lost you before.”, Sieun raised his voice slightly, letting the raw and agonising sorrow lace into both his words and gaze.

    “And that means I should lose you too, to make it even?“
    It was supposed to sound angry and filled to the brim with frustration, but the shaking pupils glued on him brought out an ounce of pure vulnerability that Suho himself wasn’t aware he had in him

    Suho sleeps. He tries to read until his eyes get dry and achy. He answers questions. On a scale of 1-10, how much does it hurt? Do you remember what day it is? Can you try moving this arm? This leg?

    He watches people. Doctors. Nurses. His grandmother. Sieun. Always Sieun. His strange group of loud, lively friends.

    He tries to relearn what it means to be a person.

    And underneath it all runs that same suffocating, angry current. That wave that keeps tugging at his legs, begging to pull him under.

    Somewhere in the hollow cavern of his chest, a child won’t stop crying out,
