“Everyone else is starting to head out,” Shayne says. “I can stay and hang. If you want.”
“Yeah,” Spencer says after a beat. “Alright.”
Shayne’s face brightens, — immediately looking softer — satisfied with Spencer’s response. He pulls a chair over and positions himself to sit sideways, choosing to face Spencer instead of the screen.
As they sit, the noise of the office fades out, leaving behind only Shayne’s quiet commentary and the low hum of equipment.

Summary
The implications have Spencer's head spinning. Too fast for him to stop, his mind conjures up the image of Amanda, laying in bed at night beside her husband, pent up and frustrated. He's out like a light, and she, left with no other choice, shimmies out of her sleep shorts and moves her hand down towards the elastic of her underwear.
He shakes the scene out of his head before it can fully form, feeling a heat crawl up along his neck. He doesn't turn to look at Amanda. Can't. The grip on his phone tightens.
Amanda is the sun. Spencer has a pair of wings made of wax. He's hoping they don't melt too fast to satisfy her.

Summary
This is nonfiction. It's an essay in which I sat down and explained, mainly for my own benefit, why I think the show's writers did what they did to Donna's character at the end of "Journey's End." My argument is that the writers were both intrigued by the idea of Donna as a double for the Doctor, and very ambivalent about it. I spend a lot of time talking about how "Midnight" fits into the Series 4 story arc.
I'll just say this now: what they did to Donna really pissed me off. If you thought the way they ended her story arc was pure genius, you probably won't like this.
