The last thing he did before bed was pull off his armor. He didn't loosen any strap the entire day. The armor stayed on during meals, and during relaxation - the little times he had such a thing.
There was the joke going around that he was married to the armor, since nobody ever saw him without it.

It was because of this, that the Copper King had to travel far out, in order to locate the Vigil’s hidden temples."
