A frown crossed Goemon’s face as he glanced down at the flyer. “Pizza again?”
“Why not? It has all the major food groups—carbs, fat, dairy, and a token vegetable.”
Goemon set the menu on the coffee table. “I would prefer to avoid the dairy. Its effects on my digestive system are suboptimal,” he said.
Jigen grabbed Goemon’s wrist and gave it a tug. While the samurai could easily have resisted the attempt to pull him off-balance, he allowed himself to be pulled down onto the sofa beside the marksman.
“I’ve been taking you to pizza restaurants in every city we’ve been to over the last six months and you wait til now to tell me you’re lactose intolerant? A man can take the ‘strong and silent’ act too far, y’know!”
Goemon wriggled free of Jigen’s grip and put a hand on his knee. “I find it difficult to say ‘no’ when I enjoy the company so much.”

He was dozing with yesterday’s newspaper lying across knees, and his phone and a half-drunk can of Pippu on the deck beside his chair. In his hypnopompic state he imagined he heard claws clicking on steel, and smiled at a memory of a little brown-and-white dog sitting patiently, holding out a paw, while he waited for Jet to dig out the smallest of his bonsai sheers to trim his claws.
“Ein,” he chuckled fondly, and opened his eyes.

“What do I know?” Goemon repeated. “I know I’m stuck in this glorified shed with you until the storm blows over, that Zantetsuken is over by the door, that you really need get that trench coat dry cleaned—I can smell it from here—that I’m secured to this bed by four pairs of your custom-made ‘Lupin-catching’ handcuffs, and that I find this situation arousing.”
A look of horror crossed the swordsman’s face. He raised his head again, straining his eyes downward, then threw it back on the pillow and fixed his eyes resolutely on the underside of the pitched roof. Zenigata’s gaze flicked down to his captive’s crotch. There was no denying the erection tenting his clothing, and no way for the hapless samurai to hide it in his spreadeagled position.
