Eddie leans back a little, his arms locked tightly around Buck’s waist. “I said I wanted a hug.”
“Is this not what we’re doing right now?”
“'s not a good hug.”
“It’s not?”
“Nope. It’s not how I want it, so it’s not a good hug,” Eddie says resolutely, looking at Buck like he should know this.
“Okay, and how do you want it?”
“I want you to hold me.” Buck’s heart jumps at the words.
“I am holding you.”
“Well, hold me harder,” Eddie demands, his cold nose finding its way into Buck’s neck.
Buck suppresses a gasp as his arms tighten helplessly around Eddie. He pulls him closer to his body, pressing his nose into soft, messy hair. A happy sigh leaves Eddie’s mouth while he relaxes into Buck’s hold.
There's a good chance that Buck is dreaming right now but he decides to just enjoy the moment for what it is because he might not get the chance to embrace Eddie like this ever again. It will go back to normal once his best friend is sober again. He's sure of that.
Or, Eddie appears on Buck's doorstep, clingy and clearly drunk, demands cuddles, crawls into Buck's hoodie, and accidentally confesses his love. It changes everything.

Eddie Diaz doesn't mean to cling to Buck.
Really.
It just sort of happens.
One minute he's sitting beside Buck, the next he's leaning on him, following him from room to room, and somehow ending up wherever Buck happens to be. Everyone at the 118 notices long before they do, and the teasing only gets worse when Buck starts realizing just how often Eddie reaches for him without thinking.
As Eddie's attachment becomes impossible to ignore, Buck discovers that maybe he's not as innocent as he'd like to believe. Because if Eddie is always looking for Buck, Buck is always looking for Eddie too.

“He—He had a nightmare,” Buck says. Eddie can tell he’s tugging at his hair. “He was asleep for barely an hour, and now he won’t stop crying. The thunder scares him.”
Before Eddie can ever answer, Theo’s cries interrupt him. His voice wails out a sad, “EDDIE!”
Eddie pauses. “Did he just say my name?”
On the other line, Buck’s breath hitches. Eddie pulls the comforter off himself, already springing into action to find his shoes and car keys.
Still, Buck doesn’t reply. Theo’s sobs are even more earsplitting through the phone. “I want EDDIE!”
“He’s—” Buck sucks in a breath. “He’s asking for you.”
OR: Theo can’t sleep because of the storm. Buck calls Eddie and Christopher for their help.

“What a conundrum,” Chim says. “Wherever will you find an alpha you trust? Who wants to be around you all the time, to the point of texting my wife about why your location is turned off. It’s a real mystery.”
Eddie’s vision goes a little black at the edges, and his hearing dissolves into a shrill ringing.
Buck’s voice cuts through the noise. “Eddie?” he asks. “I- what- He wouldn’t-”
“He would,” Eddie says without thinking.
That pit in his stomach feels like it’s grown into a watermelon. They’re all going to think that he only wants to spend a heat with Buck because he’s an omega. Buck’s going to think it—he’s going to look at Eddie, and soon he’s going to be able to scent him, and there won’t be any hiding it. Eddie’s going to ruin everything.

“Oh, big time,” Buck says. He’s used to the line of questioning, but he’d figured Eddie’d sniffed him out just like Buck had him. “Is that a problem? Not your preference?”
“I thought you might be an alpha,” Eddie says. His eyes rove over Buck’s face, but Buck only gives an agreeable shrug. Again, he’s used to it. “It’s not, ah, a problem. I’ve just- I’ve never been with a guy before. Or an omega.”
“Trying it out?” Buck asks. He should probably not be as into the idea of it as he is. Sue him—Eddie is hot as fuck. Buck doesn’t mind being an experiment for a guy he’ll never see again. “Works for me.”

Eddie hums but doesn’t elaborate on the fuck-up. Which is fine. Sophia may be nosy but she’s not going to pry about something that Eddie clearly doesn’t want to talk about.
“She was a nun,” Eddie says out of left field. Sophia nearly does a spit take.
“A nun?!” Sophia shrieks. “No fucking way.”

AKA - When Buck, Eddie and Chris went to help Tia Pepa clear up Isabel’s house after she died, packing boxes and going through things to keep or sell, Eddie finds something under her bed. It was a box and inside was a letter addressed to him and his Abuelo’s ring inside.

Eddie’s face turned a particularly vibrant shade of tomato. Hen’s jaw dropped. Bobby turned white, eyes somehow locked at 1000 yards. Ravi, who had been very carefully and silently avoiding this entire situation got up and left,
“Ew ew ew don’t tell me this. I regret asking,” Chimney’s arms swinging up to cover his face.
“Just casual. Friends with benefits deal,” Eddie tried to calm the rapidly deteriorating situation.
“Let’s discuss something more workplace appropriate-“ Bobby tried.
“Let me get this straight.” Hen cut off any attempt to change the subject. “You are sleeping, living, raising children, cuddling and even grocery shopping together, and you are claiming to be just friends with benefits,”
“Well obviously,” Buck scoffed, rolling his eyes.’
Buck and Eddie reveal they have been sleeping together but aren’t in a relationship. Nearly killing everyone in a 5 mile radius.

He’s never seen Eddie like this before. The tension that has seemed permanent in his body these past few weeks, has completely left his shoulders. The pinched look in his eyes is gone. Over Eddie’s shoulders, Hen and Chim have come to investigate the ruckus, and they both appear just as shocked.
“What’s wrong?” Buck asks, wondering if he’s forgotten some terrible dog allergy from someone in the 118 family. He doesn’t think he has.
Suddenly, Chim turns and shouts, “Cap! Did you know that Peggy’s a dog!?”
Or, Buck gets a dog, the firefam are concerned about his new "girlfriend", and Eddie is definetly NOT losing his mind.
