He lifted his gaze, meeting the dark obsidian eye staring back at him. The man before him was striking, handsome in a way that caught Xie Lian off guard. Long inky black hair fell around his face in a slightly messy wolfcut, the uneven layers softening the sharpness of his features. A single red coral pearl earring hung from his right ear, vivid against the dark strands, while a white bandage eyepatch rested over his right eye.
The man flashed a devilish grin, catching Xie Lian completely off guard. His gaze lingered before he could stop it, tracing over the sharp lines of the man’s face, the flash of perfect teeth behind that grin, and the sliver of bare skin visible where his shirt had fallen open while bent over.
Xie Lian moved to speak, only to realize the steamed bun was still caught between his lips.
OR: Third-year undergraduate student, Xie Lian, expects his first peer tutoring shift for Ancient Literature to be uneventful, until he meets a strangely bold first-year named Hua Cheng on the way to class. Despite having only just met, Hua Cheng speaks to him with the familiarity of someone he's known for years.

The realtor’s smile faltered almost imperceptibly. She shifted her weight and glanced toward the house before hesitantly looking back at him. “The house has been on the market for years,” she said carefully. “I couldn’t tell you why the last owner left, but it appears the house has a high turnover rate.” Her fingers tightened slightly around the clipboard tucked against her side. “Once someone moves in, they don’t stay for very long.”
OR: On the verge of losing his apartment, Xie Lian jumps at the opportunity to purchase a beautiful old Victorian home for a fraction of what it’s worth. After a series of strange occurrences, Xie Lian begins researching the property's history. He quickly discovers that one name keeps appearing: Hua Cheng. An eighteen-year-old young man who died in the house nearly a century ago.

Hong Hua’s attention settled immediately on Xie Lian, eyes lingering with a subtle admiration, before quickly diverting to Lang Qianqiu.
“Your Highness,” he greeted, stepping forward and bowing with practiced precision, “I hadn’t expected the honor of your presence today.”
Lang Qianqiu smiled, clearly in high spirits. “We came at the State Preceptor’s suggestion. He thought it best that I observe and demonstrate my current understanding.”
Hong Hua inclined his head again. “Then it is our good fortune to be under the State Preceptor’s guidance today.” His attention settled once more on Xie Lian, a faint warmth touching his expression.
“Allow me to introduce myself, my name is Hong Hua.” He bowed his head, measured but sincere. “I have long heard of the State Preceptor’s skill. If I may be permitted, I would be honored to witness it for myself.”
OR: Hua Cheng finds Xie Lian three hundred years earlier, during his time as Fangxin Guoshi in Yong'an. To get close to Xie Lian, Hua Cheng joins the Yong'an Infantry under the alias of a young solider, Hong Hua, and must gain Lang Qianqiu's trust to become a member of the Imperial Guard, the personal bodyguard of the Crown Prince of Yong'an.

“He's been so active today, it's really starting to hurt.” Keith's stormy hazel eyes met Lance's ocean blue, looking tired and annoyed. “I need him out of me. Yesterday,” he replied with a frown when Lance chuckled. His husband brought a hand down to gently rub his belly, feeling a kick into his palm almost immediately. “I'm glad you enjoy my suffering.”
“It'll be worth it, honey. I promise you.”

Hua Cheng’s smirk grew wider. “Why, you, of course. Who else? These idiots of the court are threatening to smash their heads into the pillars and die if I don’t wrench myself out of your web of enchantment.”
Xie Lian suddenly felt quite speechless. Who was the one enchanting who, exactly? Clearly it was the king who wouldn’t stop summoning him every minute of the day!

Xie Lian lifted his head from Hua Cheng’s chest and Hua Cheng opened his eye to see his sleepy and confused look. “San Lang?”
Hua Cheng tried to say something, to reassure Xie Lian that he was okay, that he didn’t need to be concerned. But he couldn’t speak. His throat, pierced by an arrow. Drowning in his own blood. All that came out was another pained whimper.
So much for pretending to be fine. Xie Lian was wide awake in an instant. He breathed out sharply and lifted a hand to cup Hua Cheng’s cheek, a worried look on his face.
“Oh my love, why didn’t you wake me up?”

His eyes set upon ocean blues, a familiar cheeky grin against dark skin marred here and there by rich, light blue scales that glittered prettily in the sunlight. Lance's eyes lit up as he saw Keith wake, blue flukes that were held above Keith's head shaking slightly as Lance chirped excitedly, lips pulled back to reveal sharp teeth in a warm grin as he rolled over, curling his tail slightly.
Keith softly rumbled his affection in response, happy to always have Lance near but really wanting to get back to his nap.

Keith stares straight at the druid. He bores his eyes into the shine of its face and looks his reflection dead in the eye. “Fuck—you.”
The druid tips its head all the way back till its face is far out of sight and it laughs. It shrills and twitches and ticks and shakes. “So much fire!” It shrieks. “So much fire and it’s—”
The druid reaches forward and wraps its long fingers around Keith’s face. They’re like icicles searing his skin with blinding cold. It might’ve drawn blood. He doesn’t know.
“—all gone.” The druid faces him again. “All gone.”
Keith shivers under the touch. He doesn’t understand. “What?”-
A Blade mission goes astray when Keith has an unfortunate run-in with a druid. He falls sick soon after, and is handed into Voltron’s care until he recovers. While he’s there, he contemplates his place in the universe, the depth of his illness and its mysterious connection to Lance, and why he’s not getting better.

Shiro's work was never meant to infect those he loved, but tonight, it might very well have put his best friend's life on the line.
Heart pounding, Shiro fumbled for his phone as he slammed into their car, siren blaring before his partner had even buckled herself in. They shot off into the night, terror in Shiro’s veins as he raised his phone to his ear, nerves screeching with each moment it rang without being picked up.
“Come on, come on…”
“Hi, this is Keith. Leave your message and I’ll get back to you.”
Shiro hung up violently, before dialling again.
“Pick up, pick up. Come on—” The ringing stopped abruptly, and Shiro let out a sigh of relief.
“Thank god, Kei—”
But the voice that answered, while familiar, wasn’t the one he’d been hoping for.
“Hello, Detective Shirogane.”
The lights dimmed and the cacophony of sound faded as ice filled Shiro’s heart.
Too late. You were too late.

Summary
The room beyond was small by the standards of Paradise Manor, which was to say it was still larger than most peasants' entire homes. But it felt small, intimate. The walls were hung with fabric in deep reds and golds, embroidered with patterns of butterflies and flowers that seemed to shift and move in the low light. The floor was covered in layer upon layer of plush rugs, each one softer than the last, each one clearly chosen for comfort above all else. There were no windows, which Xie Lian supposed made sense for a room meant to hold scent.
And there, in the center of the room, was a nest.
