His mind is quiet tonight. He can hear things around him today. He’s allowed himself that. He almost never takes out his earbuds, blasting music all day long. And if he doesn’t have it playing through wire, he plays from his phone speakers. It’s not like the world offered anything better. But in a peaceful moment like this he lets himself relish in a different type of music. The constant buzzing of crickets plays a steady beat with other noises layering over it. The wind causes the leaves to brush against each other, sighing out a noteless melody. Somewhere to Dave’s right he can hear an owl, its tune is sweet and constant. Dave has never heard an owl before. He decides he really likes the noise they make.
