“But…” Ilya stalls out. He conjures his sun’s face: the soft curve of skin where the corner of his eye becomes the sweep of his cheekbone, the stubble that clings to the soft end of his chin, the strong and even line of his eyebrows. “Solnyshko,” Ilya says. “It means sun, yes, but… it’s like a pet name. Sunshine. Honey. I’m calling you my sun.”
This is mortifying in English. Christ, he should never have started this conversation. He should have shaken Shane off when he had the chance. Even as Ilya thinks this, he knows he could not have done it. He cannot deny Shanyshko anything. That has always been the problem between them. What a terrifying, awesome, horrible problem to have. Ilya would like to have this problem for the rest of his life.

Summary
With Rozanov, there’s no ease, no trust. No warmth, just prickling heat, a constant rivalry that threatens to burn them both. Desperate moments in motels, bodies slammed against walls, teeth on skin, hungry mouths, anything but gentle. Violating at least 3 conflict of interest departmental policies. Maybe, sometimes, Shane pictures Rozanov’s face on the target down at the gun range, seeking calm. That smug smirk a bullseye. The sound of bullets better than meditation, wiping Shane’s head clean of any thoughts of his body like a crime scene beneath Rozanov’s hands; indentations of his teeth, bruises from his mouth, trails from his fingernails across his back, all incriminating evidence left behind. But, if a gun was to his head, (as it has been before), Shane would admit Rozanov is good at his job. Cares about the case. Wants it cracked as badly as Shane does. Wants to burn out the dark. That will have to be enough between them to stop them killing each other, and creating more paperwork for Captain Weibe.
Or, a Detective AU where they try and solve the case as well as their feelings for each other.
